It is important to consider what purpose your new fence will serve.  If you want to build a Privacy Fence you should consider how much privacy you want a your fence to provide, either a complete or partial shield from the outside world.  Is your fence for safety or security?  If you want to safely contain children or pets to an enclosed yard and to a certain extent, strangers can be kept out.  Is your fence for aesthetics?  By adding a decorative fence to your property, it can increase your property values and appearance drastically.

There are so many options when choosing materials and styles of fences, one of the first things you should do is take a look around your neighborhood and surrounding areas and begin to take notes of the style and appearance of fences that appeal to your own personal taste.  Considering basic architectural style of your home and landscaping will also help you make the right choice. The cheapest fence to install is not always the most economical in the long run.  Considering factors such as maintenance and installation costs will help determine the total cost of a fence over its lifetime.

Vinyl Coated Chain Link Fence

vinyl coated fence

This product is becoming very popular because it offers the security of chain-link fence together with the attractiveness of a vinyl coated finish. Standard colors are black and green, although unique colors are available with a fee for set-up on the coating line. Vinyl-coated fencing comes with a polyvinyl coating or a polyester coating – with polyester forming a baked-on finish that is scratch resistant. Vinyl wire is available in a choice of extruded vinyl, glued and bonded or thermally-fused bonding, with thermal fusion being the most expensive. Vinyl coating is especially beneficial for jobs adjacent to water.

Aluminum fencing is typically warranted against rust for thirty years.  The process that aluminized material goes through will also make a stronger and stiffer wire versus a galvanized wire.  Galvanized wire will begin to rust in a few years.  The pipe and framework used on vinyl coated chain link fences are typically hot dipped galvanized.  A thicker post and top rail will contribute to a longer life for a chain link fence.

PVC and Vinyl Fence

picket fencing

Vinyl fencing has become very popular because of its clean appearance and long product life with minimal maintenance. Classic picket styles offer the “All-American” look in a state of the art product. Privacy fences mimic the look of wood, however there will be no warping, expansion, or contraction succumbing to the elements of weather. PVC fences are produced through a co-extrusion process to promote rigidity and strength. UV inhibitors are added to help maintain an attractive appearance for many years. PVC fences won’t warp, rot or splinter. You will find this product to be tough and durable, without comprising any aesthetic appeal.

One of the upsides to owning a vinyl fence is that it can look just as good as a painted wooden fence, if not better.  Another benefit of using vinyl for fence materials is that a vinyl fence requires less maintenance than a wooden fence.  This is one of the most popular choices, but not quite the least expensive, vinyl fences offer homeowners a virtually maintenance free product with lengthy guarantees.  The product also looks great and has the effect of creating a more expansive feel to a property line.
